I am currently re-writing our company's Health, Safety & Environmental Policy
Having gathered the previous information I have collected
Health & Safety Policy Statement
Health & Safety Policy Manual
Statement of intent
do I need both the statement of intent & policy statement or will one suffice
They are both completley different ?
Cheers

Hi Alan,
You probably already know this but you need a General Statement, a Statement of the Organisation for H&S and the Arrangements. You don't need a statement of intent as labelled, as this would be your general policy,

For clarity and compliance there must be only one Policy Statement for the Organisation, however the CEO or Managing Director may wish to shape this his way. (His name at the bottom after all!)
Not unusual for the Policy Statement to contain within it a personal "vision", mission statement or whatever, particularly in commercial organisations where the statement has to be both inward (employees) and outward (clients and customers) facing.

Alan, Q. Why do you have a different H&S Statement and statement of intent?
The HASAW Act actually only requires a health and safety statement of intention from the employers, refer to the commentary from the Lord Chief Justice in Munkmans on Employers Liability, as a leading book of authority.
Many, wrongly, think that the HASAW Act requires a H&S policy in the format of HS(G)65, which of course it does not. That’s because not that many have actually read it or the following amendment regulations in 1975 that amplify the requirements.
Your statement should be signed-off by the most senior person with overall responsibility within your organisation, hope this helps in some way.
