I'd be interested in the views of others on this - do you think there is any merit in providing a facility for the posters of topics to lock their posts once they have had the response they have sought - with viewing access of locked threads still being available for other forum users? I believe that such a facility would help keep postings 'subject related', avoid postings that go off at a tangent, make searching / finding relevant info easier and be of assistance to the moderators in 'managing' the forum. As this facility would be at the discretion of the topic poster - with moderators still retaining their rights to lock topics - those that wish their posts to continue have the option of leaving them running. Not a bad idea. However, if the original poster requests the Mods to lock it I think the request will implemented, so same difference I guess?
