Can anyone give some advice please on finding the right enviromental training course preferably distance learning.
I have recently completed and passed the NEBOSH Dip and looking for the next direction. Some environmental issues were obviously covered with the course but, I think, did not go in depth enough to satisfy what a future employer may be looking for when advertising posts requiring environmental qualifications. My constant trawling of the websites does not make things clearer but I wondered if those of you with experience of haveing done these environmental courses could give advice? Also some of you may be employers - if so, can you please tell me what you would be looking for in terms of qualifications.
Many thanks

Hi
Well done with passing the Dip (Not easy).
The Nebosh Env Dip was the next course for me; and this is (what I believe) the next stepping stone in your professional development and additional relevant qualifications which new employers will be looking for.
I did mine with RRC which was very good (the course materials is excellent).
Go for it; you won't be disappointed.

I agree with Phil. It all depends on what career path you're looking to take and what area/s you'd like to go on to work in but it sound as though the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma is exactly what you're looking for. Its a course thats very well recognised and respected enough to get you a firm foothold on the 'environmental qualifications ladder', especially if you're staying in the broader HSE field. You can look specialise in other environmental areas further down the line.
FYI its not something that can be got quickly, i'd give yourself at the very least 6-8 months. I'm doing it myself at the moment with SHEilds via e-learning (who are very good, as are RRC i've heard) and i started nearly a year ago. I'm hoping to take the exams in the March window though.
Best of luck anyway

Hi, this is interesting as I too am currently looking at environmental training/qualification, I recently completed the IEMA Foundation Certificate in environmental management and am booked on the Associate Certificate course in March 2011, I guessed I would ease myself into it, would I have been wiser to have just gone for the NEBOSH Env. Diploma? I have worked within H&S for a number of years now, however I do have environmental responsibilities and feel my knowledge/understanding on this subject could be better!
Congrat's by the way on passing your Diploma........

Your choice really depends on how much time you have to devote to further study. The IEMA Associate course is very good and of course gives you the first level of professional recognition as an Associate Member of IEMA. None of the NEBOSH environmental courses currently get you any level of membership with IEMA and if environmental recognition is what you're looking for this is something to consider. There is also an IEMA Diploma run by a few training companies but should be getting rolled out to more in the near future. This will be an excellent course to complete but at the momment I'm not certain who will be running it or whether it will be offered in distance learning format.
In terms of providers I can fully recommend RRC and Connaught Compliance (now Santia) though the latter does not currently offer distance learning.
Whichever course you decide on it's a good idea to start preparing now by reading quality newspapers or professional journals. Depending on where you are based have a look at Environmental Population (www.environmental population.co.uk). This is a not for profit organisation bringing business people together to reduce the environmental impact of their activities and is an excellent source of information.
Congrats on passing the H&S Diploma and whichever course you decide on best of luck.

Middle of last year I was in a position where I wanted to expand the environmental side as more and more of it was crossing my desk. I went to the University of Bath and did the IEMA associate membership course.
Thoroughly enjoyed it, learnt a lot and found it quite interesting. It was also fairly reasonably priced and not to daunting time wise as you can work at your own pace.
I'd certainly recomend it.

Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice (University of Kaplan), Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering ( University of Phoenix).
* I realize this is 22 yrs of keeping educated but; so far, it does not help me in England..sorry to say.
I currently volunteer for the GMFRS.
I would like to have Fire Safety in my Quals. in any aspect.
