Dear All

As the title suggests I am looking for some information regarding the distance permitted of a fixed guard from the floor. We would like to alter the position of the fixed guard so that there is a gap of 300mm from the floor to the bottom of the guard. This is to facilitate the use of a sweeping brush to clean up. It is a good few feet from the machine and the operators cannot get to any moving parts. Similarly the brush cannot also come into contact with moving parts.

Is there a specific distance permitted or simply based around assessment?

Any advice would be great

Thanks

K

Ken

The distance is specified in the BS EN on safety of machinery. Various anthrometrical data.

As peter has stated there is a standard that you could refer to; this being BS EN ISO 13857:2008 - Safety of machinery. Safety distances to prevent hazard zones being reached by upper and lower limbs.
