We had SMAT(Senior manager audit team)audit the other day at work, and he thought the walkways in the workshop were narrow. Can anybody tell me is there a minimum width for walkways .

I am not aware of a specific dimension but the Fire RRO and your fire risk assessment should consider this. The other regs that apply will be the Workplace reg 17 but, of course, it is not specific: http://www.legislation.g.../3004/regulation/17/made The ACoP and guidance L24 gives a few more clues, but no dimensions http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/l24.pdf

They should usually be 1.2 metres, however in a workshop it will depend on risk, due to equipment and workforce numbers SBH

Have you a disabled access, you may think that this may not effect you, but we had to provide a access route for a disabled plant operator. This will effect how wide your access routes are as well.

Mine are 1.2 metres which is adequate for our workshop Small workforce and plenty of escape routes, however my walkways are designed to keep pedestrians away form the flt they are not an emergency route. do your risk assessment and find out what is adequate and ensure this is recorded with your findings Good Luck Alan
