Hi
Im just looking for views on frequency of refresher training for asbestos awareness?
Audience will be maintenance staff on a site where there is asbestos in some locations but not all

CAR Reg 10 default frequency is 12 months. You do have significant leeway as to the content of that refresher though. ACoP refers.

We've just refreshed at 12 months if it helps - similar audience.

Our local HSE office accepts / advises full half day asbestos awareness course every 24 months with a 90 minute tool box talk in between, the tool box talk must include the information as listed in L143 ACOP CAR 2006.
The ACOP requires annual refreshers
It is also expected that this will be altered to include any updated information and any changes in legislation / best practice

Ginga John, your 'local HSE office' is apparently advising you to take action contrary to the requirements of the Reg 10 ACoP which categorically states that "refresher" training should not be a repeat of the initial awareness training.

It would be interesting to see how Ginga John's initial half day awareness training course is repeated in a 90 minute toolbox talk :-)

PS - HSG264 is available free to download on the HSE website. I'm sure there's one or two items in there you could put into a toolbox talk to 'freshen it up' so it's not word for word with last years training.
