Hi everyone, I am thinking about getting something like an Amazon Kindle to put many of my H&S books on and to down load from the net things like guidance etc. The idea is to 1, reduce space needed to hold all these things and 2, to make it easier to access them without having to build a library of documents and saving paper and ink for mu computer. The question is can you copy PDFs for example onto these devises and how easy it to do so.

I use a memory stick - does most of what I need & I never take my master away from the office The point being is that the master is always only a hands distance away in my control not somewhere else in somebody else's control! If my system collapses all I would do is put my MS into my sons IT kit and away I go

Hi Bob, An e-book reader, also called an e-book device or e-reader can be used for the purpose that you mention. I keep an electronic version of many documents these days in several forms.

Bob, I have H&S books as pdf's in my Kindle. Not all are of the clearest quality but all are readable. Can't answer the second part of the question as it was my brother who loaded them in. Although appeared to take seconds. Hope this helps.

Been discussed before where I gave my opinion on fruit based devices :) I have seen suppliers and contractors use tablet devices to good effect. See http://forum.iosh.co.uk/...aspx?g=posts&t=98388 Kindle IMHO is designed for reading books really, liquid ink is good for text and you get an amazing battery life and ability to read in bright light. To answer your question.Yes, Pdf is widely supported by these devices, I also use my phone (although it's better than Steve's generic :) - although my boss would disagree) Thank goodness it's Friday.

I too use my iPhone. Trying to persuade my better half that I need an iPad to read the various pdfs better! Oh yes, I use the iBooks app. I also use Dropbox to store the guidance online.

Bob, I have a Kindle and bought it primarily for holiday use. However I have also loaded pdf versions of some reference materials and whilst not as easy as having the original they are still readable.

Sounds just what I need. The idea is to reduce the storage space I need as the bookcase is now rather full. The ability to use it for other books is also an attraction, currently reading Goeorge Bush' book and read quite a lot when I go to bed, quite normal really how disapointing, me not the book. I thought I could use the Kindle and as it sounds that it can take PDFs sounds a good idea. Thanks for your help.

Sorry walker must have been something in that last pint, I am not as old as that (yet) thought you said 2023. Will keep the Kindle switched off when the flair hits I think.

teh-boy - good morning. Why would life be worse without technology. I would suggest that with no technology we professionals would only have to consider: Working at Height and Manual Handling in the few industries left. Rich
