Requiremnts providing suitable access to welfare facilities

I have been asked to advice on welfare provisions for a mechanical excavation ditching and pipe work operation on the highway.
The work is at various locations within a 4 mile stretch of highway. At one end of the 4 miles stretch there is a large depot which contains toilets, washing (including showering) facilities and mess facilities.
Is this sufficient provision to serve this two operative team?

Construction is not my field, but 4 miles seems a bit far to have to travel for toilet facilities. Would it not be possible to locate a portaloo in closer proximity to where the team are working?

I think I discussed the possibility of a mobile welfare vehicle to accommodate the toilet facility, this would be answer those needs and more besides. Thank you for your reply

Whilst working in utilities, the requirement for toilets was that they needed to be accessible within 10 minutes. Washing facilities were set up in the vans.

Yes thanks for that, on balance I think that on the basis that the operatives will have a similar set up to that of utilities gangs, in terms of washing facilities etc and that this particular scheme is for a duration of a little over two months, it may be sufficient to use the depot for toileting.

LN if you needed to go to the loo would a loo 4 miles away be suitable and sufficient for your needs - It would not be S&S for my needs

On a similar theme one of my sites is inside a road tunnel which is more than 2 miles long, the works are 200M from one end and more than 2 miles from the welfare, at present sharing with the tunnel staff.
Work is carried out on nights with the tunnel closed, every third week.
It's really cold in there during this current spell of weather and I agree that 2 miles is a long way to go to the loo. Especially at my age.
Space is restricted at the nearest end and the tunnel owner, the client, has freed up an area at the other end and we may sort something out there.
Is there a vehicle that can be hired that will provide welfare in accordance with current Requirements? If so could someone please pm me with details.
Thanks

Some years ago on a project we hired in two self-propelled mobile welfare units at a cost of about £400 per week. These had all the facilities such as toilet, fridge, table, seating area, microwave etc. Can't give you the details because I did not procure them, however a Google should do the trick.

Chris, i haven't got the details on to hand but should be able to get my hands on them during tomorrow 31/01/11, our transport department are currently dealing and hireling in vehicles carrying seating areas with table, cooking facilities, hot and cold water supplies for washing and a completely self contained chemical loo.

I've got some details now thanks, rather expensive but a Ford Transit conversion looks good, so does a trailer unit.
Google did the trick as usual with a little help from Little Nick.

It's a while since I worked in the Gas Industry & welfare issues on site were always topical.
We did look at vehicles equipped with toilets, etc. , but faced a problem in who was going to remove the waste products & as important, where to.
Perhaps times have moved on & these issues have now been sorted, but I can still vividly recall the comments from our guys who were asked to perform this task, & there were quite a few expletives!
