Hi folks, I have been looking for experience in H&S within construction. I was chatting to a local builder who has offered to let me help them gain SafeT Cert. Has anyone any help/advice or tips.
Thanks

I am Tec member of IOSH, almost finished Diploma, I come from a manufacturing background, I am ITSSAR accreditated Instructor(forklifts) and recently completed 18001 Lead Auditor course. I am looking to gain experience in Auditing and in construction.

Take one step at a time - get to your local IOSH & construction group meetings and make contacts and try to get a 'mentor'. And thereafter, depending on what you do at work, you may not have much trouble with the basic paperwork but only act as a facilitator; do not put your name on any risk assessments etc
There is an area in the application whereby the applicant is asked 'who is their competent person' - this is the area to be very aware of as once your name is down its down, with all the repercussions thereafter!
"Depending on what you do at work"; is a very important point as if U do not facilitate etc already this could be a trap so be very wary
Competence: U have already demonstrated some competence by asking the Q? So keep it up and note that manufacturing can be completely different to construction e.g. The workforce in one is usually PAYE where the people in the other are usually SC60 and this makes a big difference

Hi Trevor
Safe T Cert is based on the OHSAS18001 standard, with particular Construction references and requirements. Safe T Cert does not have the same documentation requirements as the 18001 standard, and can be difficult as there is not actual written standard to follow. However the CEF provide a CD to members which details all requirements of Safe T Cert and even provides some templates etc for documentation.
Hope this Helps

Thanks for the replies guys, I will not be putting my name to anything. I am there to learn and gain for myself. This has been explained to the contractor.
