Hi Guys, Can you tell me if chain blocks are subject to a six monthly thorough examination?? Our insurance guy calls here every six months and does a "visual" on all our lifting gear and he is telling me that this is enough to be doing as a chain block is put down as a "fixed item" therefore only needs checking before first use. I have some doubts on this, can anybody please put me straight on this please. He also says that this complies with the HSA? Thank you. Torres

My understanding is that they should be inspected 6 monthly. If detachable it's classed as a lifting accessory - therefore 6 monthly. If fixed, it's part of a crane - yearly
