Was talking to a new colleague the other day about a sport im involved in and the look of horror on his face whan i mentioned the following words,
Ice Hockey
It made me curious as to the general impression of the sport from non-fans, so the question is what do you think of when you hear the words Ice Hockey.?

Not as scary as a huge rugby player running at you ....
That's what I think on a Friday afternoon :-)

The crisp thud/crack of face and helmet against perspex.
A crimson flower stranded in the iced sea of battle.
Upended goalposts beside a startled Vorhees-esque goalie.
A portly organist winks to the crowd as he splanks off a jaunty seaside tune.
I'm wasted here, you know

The thought of doing it makes my blood run cold really. Such thuggery is behond belief. and for what just hitting a little hramles puk into a very small net??? Give me a real sport, like rigby which means a mass hitting another mass to get hold of a little offshape ball.
Joking really as it is Friday.

Deecee, Playing hockey presents some very significant risks. Sharpened blades of steel, small high density materials commonly moving through the air at >90Km/hr, aggressive pursuit of the high density material, and at times outright disregard for the health and well being of others are just a few of the hazards of which the players need to be aware.
I, even with prior knowledge of the aforementioned, managed to play the game for about 20 years before the "outright disregard for the health and well being of others" lead to a torn tendon in my shoulder. That was the end of my weekly fun and games. I guess it's all part of being Canadian.
It's still a great game and I do still occasionally get out on the pond with friends and family for a game of shinny.
Have fun!
Tom
