Hi All, I imagine some of you are aware of the Energy Assessments required for all Air Con units that came in under the new Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007, Part 4 - Regulation 21, require inspections of all air-conditioning systems with rated outputs over 12kW at intervals not greater than 5 years.
I wondered if anyone had heard anything with regard to if the same company that did the service could do the Assessment, It makes sense to “NOT” have the same company akin to lifts where it is frowned upon to have the same company do both the statutory inspection and the servicing, but I cant find anything concrete guiding peoplee this way so please let me know if you have heard anything regarding this.
Thanks in advance
Alan

Same law but a different thread:
Many of the new systems being put in are very noisy and causing drops in temperature so causing problems for staff

I have received mail shots from a variety of consultancy companies advising that these assessments need to be undertaken by an independent body – they are touting for work after all; such a requirement is not stipulated in the regulations.
In the end it all comes down to cost and trust. If your regular system maintainer employs someone who has been trained to undertake the assessment required by the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations and you trust him/her to provide a non biased report, if the cost is acceptable there is no reason for you to look to another provider.
