I am going to a site tomorrow and I have been informed due to current rain it is knee deep in mud, pedestrian walkways have some hardcore put down

However I am informed the mud is out of hand and there is no money available for hardcore

Any advice would be gratefully received as always

Apparently the machines are getting bogged down and more rain forecast

We had a similar problem, and I was told that there was no money in the job for clearing the mud or ensuring walkways maintained. I asked the director the question who was going to pay for the injuries or damage that may be caused if the insurance company became aware of negligence in provision of statutory duties, The site was stopped that day mud cleared and walkways re-placed.

I was tempted to say take a pair of wellies but this could be a serious situation. Is there anybody doing any work at height on the site as that would make it awfully dangerous to give safe access and egress to a place of work.
No money for hardcore? Tell your boss or client you hope he has the funds available to pay for court costs should an accident occur....reasonably foreseeable etc.

Its a simple management of risk and failure to control, if there are inadequate pedestrian walkways/traffic routes then you have the risk of enforcement action from the HSE and also defending liability if someone slip, trips or falls as a result of site conditions.

If its that bad then management should stop and take stock of the situation and put an appropriate clean up plan in place, then a maintenance regime which would hopefully stop site conditions becoming so bad
