Hello there
Out of interest how long are other people holding onto records of daily checks made on forklifts? I've been asked how long we need to keep them and our policy is not clear on this point.

We keep ours for a ridiculously long time, in fact I would say the life of the FLT. This is an interesting point you raise. Is there any need to keep them for over 3 yrs - no claims after this time?? Beyond this period the annual (or bi annual) LOLER exams would be all that is needed to evidence legal compliance - wouldn't they.
I shall watch the posts with interest on this one.

I would keep 12 months rolling, that way I could be happy that I had evidence of regular inspections from the point of the last LOLER exam.

We keep 3 yrs rolling as this is the cut off point for liability/PI claims.

Our completed checklists are scanned in weekly and are held electronically in our maintenance schedule which we archive each year on to a back up server and then to CD. We started this practice about 5 years ago and have them right from back then. They are stored in a directory structure by date and year so they are very easily accessible.
It also means we don’t have huge volumes of paper to store away.
They are useful and I have had to look back over them for both maintenance requirements and once for an accident claim.
Not sure that answers your question but i thought i'd throw it into the mix!
