Hello all - later this year, my Department will be shedding its Managing Agent (which we use to act as the middle man between ourselves as the client and the contractor who performs the duty for us). Whilst we will still be able to call on a specialist technical advice as and when we need to, this will not be for every piece of work and I will therefore need to have greater dialogue direct with the supplier of services.
My question is - has anyone produced a guide which sets out the various minimum statutory requirements for buildings and machinery so that I can tell quickly what needs to be done and when, and can check to ensure this is being done (e.g. the requirements of PUWER, LOLER, L8)? I can (and will) look through the appropriate pieces of legislation, but wondered if there was anything out there which is already in existence? My business is office based, dealing with the public, but of course the list of things to check are endless - lift maintenance, water testing, boilers...
I hope this makes sense!

Bob - I am the adviser, I have a NEBOSH Diploma in H & S and I know where I need to look at the various Acts, Regs and standards. Just wondered if there was any handy guides out there which provide a quick guide to the various requirements, that's all.

Ian,
there is a small book called "Health and Safety Pocket book" by Jeremy Stranks, published by Butterworth Heinemann. It is reasonably current and you can usually pick up a copy from Amazon fairly reasonably. It is a handy quick reference guide.
Failing that you there is the old favourite, "Principles of Health and Safety at Work", published by IOSH.

As a Health & Safety Adviser you should be aware that H&S Legislation is not generally concerned with 'various minimum statutory requirements', rather they are goal setting in nature. Good luck!
