Would a trainer that delivers on client site classroom based training be expected to join the OHSCR? Any thoughts appreciated.

Hewett No one "needs" to join the register - its a matter of choice. But if you read the press releases the HSE are making the enforcing authorities will be recommending that people use the register to find consultants. I believe that you have to select a small number of "specialists areas" when you register and I suspect what you are really asking is if "Trainer" is am eligible field on the register. Perhaps someone who has registered could advise.

You can only join the register if you meet the requirements which includes have a certain grade of membership of the specified bodies such as CMIOSH or FIIRSM. Personally I wouldn't expect a trainer to be on the register but would prefer them to hold PTTLS or better. Regards Yul

If I arranged any HS Training I would be looking to ensure that the trainer had knowledge and experience of the subject. Steve

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Brian. If people are looking for trainers would they use the register and are trainers able to register (as in is there a category for them). Thanks Steve and YulKok, you are quite right and I am glad to see your responses. Fortunatley I am CMIOSH, have competency in the areas I deliver and a PGCE (with QTLS to boot soon I hope when the application is completed). So it was refreshing to see that in engaging trainers you would consider an approriate teaching qualification. One of the main reasons for my post regarded indemnity insurance. It is a requirement to enter the register. In my case my training work load is light (an aside to my full time role) and the type of class room based training I undertake (I don't do forklift, MEWPS, PASMA etc) is not high risk and usually negotiated under the clients own insurance cover. Thanks again, any other comments welcomed.
