One for the construction boffins. Can anyone explain, in layman terms, the Industrial Training Levy (CITB) Order 2009? Do all companies have to pay this and if so how do they reduce their fees? Thanks all.

G, this has been discussed before in the last few months, so may be worth a search of the forums, or alternatively go to the CITB website? http://www.cskills.org/levy-grant/levy/index.aspx

If I remember correctly the CITB Levy comes into effect if you employ someone and your company are engaged either wholly or mainly in construction. I think there is also a turnover of threshold of £50,000.00. So I think in answer to your questions a self employed builder would be no. A typical business that may not pay a Levy would be a father son labour only business. Outside that any employer of one plus is more than likely going to have to pay a levy. Have a quick look at the link www.cskills.org/levy-gra..._I_have_to_complete.aspx Are you looking at reducing Levy fees. If so this is done by reducing direct employed labour and turnover (Be careful, on one side is employment law and the other HMRC). If you are refering to the current grants available this is about £27 per day (I try to block courses together and use own premises to get the most out of a day) per operative and then the course types and durations vary.
