I am trying to find a definition for indudtrial injury. In particular I have been asked if a heart attack suffered at work by an employee who has a physical job, including manual moving and handling, though not lifting, of heavy items, should be classed as an industrial injury. At this stage I have no information omn medical history of the person concerned.

It may depend on the purpose of the classification - are you thinking of legal reporting requirements, internal recording requirements, compensation claims etc?

No it is not notifiable. If however there is something in the workplace that causes the heart attack such as chemicals etc then it falls into a different category. A heart attack is generally caused by some sort of defect with the heart that result in the normal heart beet being messed up. This is caused by a material defect or an interuption to the hearts function such as electric shock. The latter is reportable under electrocution not heart attack. If you have a situation that causes the heart attack the cause is what needs to be addressed not the consecuence.
