Hi all. I am trying to find a product which can be used as a lone work alarm to alert presence only. We have cleaners who come in from 5.30am to clean in many buildings for short periods of time. They can't come in later, they can't work as doubles as we don't have enough staff and this won't be considered as an option. Most of them carry their own moble phone (by preference over ours) but in 2 recent cases, they have had no signal in the area in which they were stuck (lift and a toilet) and this is worrying. We have the obvious first aid concerns for them but the more likely scenario is just 'being stuck' without being able to contact anybody. We are removing as many risks as we can from each individual scenario and we have a check-in arrangement, but I'm wondering if there is a gadget out there which might add the 'belt and braces' to our arrangements. I've looked around but so far have only found systems which add on to a mobile phone or which involve GPS tracking - possibly a little OTT, although happy to be disuaded. How does anybody else deal with this?
Thanks

mootoppers, not sure if this will lead you to a good angle of research but hopefully it will help. I have recently had to look at gas monitors for use on a specific project site and a lot of the newer ones come with a built-in motion sensor (though bear in mind this can be turned off).
Said motion sensor will cause the monitor to beep at set intervals (usually 30, 60, 120 and 180s I think) before it goes into alarm. Obviously the gas monitor aspect is over the top but similar should be available just as a motion sensor.
The units we've got hold of can be clipped to a belt and even standing at an AHU working with tools is enough for the unit to "trip" the motion sensor.

That should have been "beep at set intervals (...) when it detects no movement before ... "

I attended a meeting yesterday and a presentation was given by "code blue communications" on their system for Lone Working. It may be worthwhile you contacting them and discussing their system. Contact details are - Russell Goldthorpe (Director), tel 01484441400, 07512441400. E mail - russell.g@codebluegroup.co.uk. Cheers, Glenn

We use a lone worker 'gadget' that uses GPRS and has GPS positioning etc that we use with a roaming sim. The company that we use also offer much the same service using a software download for some mobile phones. Rather than fall foul of any rules, if you would liek to know more please pm. The other suggestion I have is whether you could use a service that is normally used for the elderly and vulnerable, pendant round the neck style service, although these tend to be linked to a landline phone.
