I have 27 yrs work based knowledge split between catering and construction, I have recently passed the Nebosh general and Nebosh fire certificates both with credit and I have just passed CIEH level 4 in Advanced Hygiene (Merit). I recently finished a fixed term contract as Health ,Safety and Wellbeing Manager. The positions I have been applying for are coming back with the statement, not sufficient experience. How am I to gain this without getting the chance to show I am a worthwhile candidate for the positions I am applying for. Both me and the employer are losing out as I am committed to this career and the employer would get 100% commitment. Could it be my age as I am 45 and employers do not want to give me the chance?. All responses treated with the greatest respect.

Latchy, As you are aware it is still a very difficult climate and when you are applying for positions through agencies the first thing they will do is a 'Buzz word' search on the multitude of C.V's they receive, and if a specific skill or qualification is not itemised on your C.V it could something like CSCS Card,IOSH or RAMS approval.
So if this is not on the C.V it just gets filtered into oblivion, for example a person with a IOSH managing safely and a CSCS Card would get to the next stage or even put before the client as the agency people who deal with C.V's firstly do not understand H&S Qualifications and required experiences.
