If you use a popular search engine and do a search under 'BS4142 guidance' you should get some idea of what it covers and its application. If you are asking for a copy of the BS be careful, you are likely to fall foul of copyright laws if you do not pay for it. Hope this helps.

This British Standard describes a method of determining the level of a noise of an industrial nature, together with procedures for assessing whether the noise in question is likely to give rise to complaints from persons living in the vicinity. It basically tells you how to conduct environmental noise monitoring taking into accound residual noise levels / back ground noise, corrections to be made for, how to deal with fluctuating noise levels, writing reports etc... with worked examples. Very useful IMO

Thank you both for your responses. I will probably have to purchase the BS but I wanted to obtain a general idea if it was woth the £100 or so it costs. Many thanks.

Dj I can access BSs online through my local library; it might be worth checking if you can do the same. LB
