Hi Shaun, HSG 261 is your first port of call, the HSE's guidance to Motor Vehicle Repair. This replaced HSG 67 & HSG 62 and is available at: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/hsg261.pdf Far too many risks to go into detail but the main hazards specific to HGV repair would include (off top of my head brainstorming): * Falls from height (off backs of vehicles, into pits etc) * Explosive components (air bags, some seat belt tensioners) * Crushing injuries (unsupported cabs, tipper bodies, poorly maintained axle stands / jacks etc.) * COSHH (waste oils, antifreeze, adBlue, battery acids, exhaust ventilation) * Type inflation (cage etc req'd) * PUWER (maintenance of vehicle lifts etc.) * S,T,F (oily floors etc.) * Asbestos / Harmful Substances (older vehicles may have asbestos containing brake pads, if not brake / clutch dust isn't nice anyway) * Eye injuries (working under HGV's, from power presses, from use of hand tools) * Workplace Transport * Noise & Vibrations (form hand tools etc.) * Fire (Welding / burning, dropping oil / fuel tanks) Best Regards, Ian

Shaun. There is also LOLER for the lifting equipment. Also, a consideration should be given to DSEAR. Will there be any petrol vehicles? (Mainly cars for personal use, if its a HGV garage). Spraying activities or oxy acetylene cutting? Intrinsically safe lighting may be required. Andy
