Hi all, Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of Australian employers recognising UK qualifications such as NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma and CMIOSH? From my research, so far, Australian employers are reluctant to accept these highly regarded UK qualifications on their own without "local experience and qualifications". Any information greatly appreciated.

I'm an Aussie working in the UK. I did enquire about this a few yrs ago. They will recognise your quals but you will need to do a bridging course to brush up on the local law, which is not that much different from here

I'm from the UK and have been working in Oz for the last couple of years in OHS roles. I managed to obtain Australian employment applying from the UK, but did find it difficult. UK qualifications are definitely recognised here and held in high regard by large employers and people in the industry, but CMIOSH has no status for employment terms and does not mean anything outside the academic arena in my experience. The bottom line is that Oz is no different to the UK in regards to employers stating qualifications alone are not enough and although not mutually exclusive, I reckon that Australian employers even place a far greater emphasis on proven ability and experience than academic qualifications which obviously does not help the situation you have encountered, but it is not impossible. My advice for what its worth, is to focus your CV more on your work experience, level of operation, work achievements and skill sets that employers can identify with and relate to for their business. For example, don’t use terms like CDM for construction related jobs as they wont know what this means. Put it into layman’s terms. If you say you managed a budget of £xxx convert it to AU$ so as they can understand. Don’t expect to just state that you have a particular qualification and that should speak volumes. Australia is a very multicultural place that employs OHS people from all over the world and with numerous different qualifications in safety of which NEBOSH Diploma is just one. I hope this is of some help.
