Hi All, Reviewing lifting equipt register and we have a number of lifting eye bolts that from part of stationary equipment. Would all these eye bolts need to be inspected 6 monthly on insurance inspections or simply tag them as 'do not use until inspected' and arrange inspection prior to next use. They are infrequent use and only if moving or replacing equipment Cheers

safetyman2010 All we do with lifting equipment that is not being used is red tag with "do not use not inspected", Then when we need to use the item we have it inspected before use.

It would also be wise to seggregate them from any equipment in use to avoid any mix up...

Loler states periodic examination requirements every six months, we offshore colour code our lifting equipment after each perioic examination whether it be six monthly or yearly. Just by seeing the colour code we know it has been examined by a competent third party and has been inspected in the last six months..

Safetyman2010 The Code of practice for the safe use of lkifting equipment Section 19 (eyebolts) published by the Lifting Equipement Engineers Association notes that 19.6.2 the definition of lifting equipment under LOLER makes it clear that eyebolts fall under lifting accessory and unless a "written scheme of examination" is drawn up by a competent person is in place and operating then they must be examined (thorough examination) every six months. They also recommend that eye bolts be removed from plant, and stored safely with the hole being protected and positively marked - this stops inadvertent use and is preferential to any type of tag or sign. 19.7.2 (storage and handling of eyebolts) notes that where eye bolts are left "in-situ" demand the same attention as in service bolts and they should be verified, examined and marked as recommended in the LEEA code. Hope this helps
