Can anyone confirm or otherwise that a person who has CPCS A61 Appointed Person for lifting operations can act on site as a CPCS A62 Crane Supervisor?
I was always under the impression that the roles are entirely separate and should remain so.

LOLER Reg 8 says competent person.
BS7121 says Appointed person can carry out Crane Supervisors duties or delegate them.
I understand where you are coming from as not to many years ago you could do a AP Course in a hotel room without seeing a crane. Thankfully things have changed. Ta Alex

As far as I'm aware, CPCS now state that in order to automatically qualify as a Crane Supervisor, an Appointed Person must hold a relevant & current slinging qualification.

CPCS can state what they like but until they rewrite LOLER regs and BS7121 that is what I will go by.
CPCS are probably stating what people will need to gain the qualification.
I have had 2 people through AP course CPCS A61 they gained the qualification and neither have Slinger /Signaller.
Also another 2 gained A60 Lift Supervisor in the last month again without the Slinger /Signaller qualification.
Personally I think it is ludicrous that you can carry out either A60 or A61 duties without a Slinger/Signaller ticket but you can.
Another CPCS shot in the foot I feel.
