Would anyone be able to offer some suggestions as to what the requirements are for conducting refresher training to ensure competency for overhead crane operators. We run a rolling programme but I am keen to establish exactly what we should be working to.

Some people say 3 years, some say 5 years?

Comments Appreciated

If it was a Mobile or Tower Crane the CITB card is valid for 5 years.

As this does seem a long time a lot of Crane companies assess there Operators yearly.

In my opinion 3 yearly should suffice for your overhead crane operations.

As mentioned before CITB/CPCS require fully competent blue card holders to renew their card every five years. Why Change it to three when the principals of operation will not change that much. I would advise the same five year guidance. This will be recognised as best practice within the industry. Unless there is good reason to reduce to three year intervals.
