I am the H&S officer for a Housing Association, and have been contacted by our building services dept. for my thoughts on them installing showers above baths in tenants homes.
Obviously, they are peoples homes so HASWA would not apply, but duty of care to our tenants, etc.
My first thought was that there is obviously potential for slips / falls, thus possible claims.
I wonder if anyone has any experience / thoughts on this matter?

Your thought is the obvious one. Why not have a word with some of the hotel groups. I notice in the modern or refurbished complexes eg. Express by Holiday Inn (part of the Bass Group) are using units with non-slip inserts.
Also consider the electrical supply, particularly earthing, and exposed hot pipes (?) depending on the system.

There are some baths available that are designed to accommodate a shower above (eg Kaldewei). These are a little wider than usual, have a relatively flat area at the tap end, etched anti-slip treatment and hand-holds for climbing in and out. They do need a wall-mounted hand-hold for the standing user and an over-bath shower screen (eg folding 4 panel type). Why not have a chat with the RoSPA home safety people on 0121 248 2000?
