However be aware that they need to have strict quality assuarance procedures, such as accreditation to EN 45004 for surveying (i think this is a draft standard), EN 45001 for the anaylitical mathods employed, ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ISO 9002, in house QA checks etc. Usually accreditation to UKAS (united kingdom accreditation service - Tel:0208 178406, www.ukas.co.uk) will provide the appropriate qualification. However be aware of HSE licenced Asbestos removal contractors who will also provide the service. I have heared various tales form bulk sample results being made up to generate removal contracts to no analysis taking place. nevertheless aslong as the results are provided from an appropriatly accredited laboratory, any "competent" persons can take bulk samples. Generally it is a good idea to employ the services of an independant analytical laboratory (competent for surveying, bulk sample id, air monitoring and project management etc.) and leave only the removal to the HSE licenced contractor.
