Can anyone assist with information about the chemical substance Acetone. I require the OEL and health hazards resulting from exposure, the necessary monitoring and control measures required for using this agent.

Acetone used to be widely used in healthcare and still is to a lesser degree in some departments like accident and emergency. It is a solvent (remember nail polish remover)and when used in small quantities it does not represent much of a health hazard. You could try Nightingales Reference book which is a vade mecum for pharmacy departments.

The 8 hour OES for acetone is currently 750 ppm/1810 mg/m3 and the 15 minute OES is 1500 ppm/3620 mg/m3.
Acetone vapour is narcotic in high concentrations and the liquid will defat the skin.
Control measures will depend on the conditions of use.
