Anyone see the prematch high jinks before the Gloucester rubgy match during which the crossbar fell to the ground? Not sure how of its weight but trust no one was hurt. Out come the ground staff to re-attach it so the game could start. They come equipped with some sort of vehicle with a tractor type cab. And then someone climbs up onto the bonnet and from there onto the top of the cab in order to fix the cross bar. Oh for a dynamic risk assessment to consider the risks of working at height....!!! And all shown on national TV! So much for "elf and safety"............ http://www.independent.i...ys-kickoff-29859769.html

Good morning Phil, On the flip side to your observation, had the game been delayed due to of 'elf n safety' reasons....
...awaiting appropriate equipment, airbags, trained person(s), PPE, etc. (all on National TV with a stadium full of eager supporters), I fear 'elf n safety' would become even more of a laughing stock!
I agree with your comment but cringe thinking about the alternative!

Further to SP's comments, I doubt a DRA would have been much use given the circumstances. It was a belt and braces job, just as it is so often on site when something goes awry.

There ought to have been a standard RA in place for this as it is likely routine out of match hours. No need for a DRA unless you are already following a standard process in this situation.

Better still would be a Pre-game inspection of the equipment. At football matches the referee's assistants check the goal nets before kickoff.
