Hi everyone, I've been tasked with finding out about vehicle inspections by the company drivers. I know that it's meant to be daily but other than the highway code Rule 89 (Vehicle condition. You MUST ensure your vehicle and trailer comply with the full requirements of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations and Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations (see ‘The road user and the law’). Is there any other legal requirements for vehicle inspection for commercial vehicls?
Thanks

This is a legal requirement and you can download templates and buy various logbooks from sources such as the FTA. Drivers are required to sign the daily checksheet and not doing so is an offence. Hope this helps

Can we assume that the company holds an Operator Licence. As far as a "leagl" requirement goes, its limited to the Highway Code. However, as the holder of an Ol icence you also have certain obligations which also form part of the TMs undertakings. The compoany and drivers really need to know their responsibilies.
In essence, a driver will at the start of a duty check their vehicle and record the findings and be avle to reporta nd report any defects (Undertaking No5). The records need to be kept for varying periods of time. Again assumin that drivers also have to comply with drivers Hrs Reg, then this would need to be shonw on their drivers hrs as 'Other work' with the expectation of it being 10 mins or more.
Would it be right to guess that the company holds a Standard rather than an Inter?national O licence?
