Hi All.

I have recently been asked to assist in the production of Lift Plans for Chain Lift Skips as a tier 1 contractor has insisted that one is carried out for all lifting operations on site, including the above operation using a chainlift truck. I have a reasonable amount of experience in carrying out basic lift plans for tasks using overhead gantries, but few of the principles apply to the use of chain lift skips in such a way as they can be transferrable to paper in the same way.

My initial thought is to build it into a SOP/SSW, ensuring that all of the main points are covered; eg. pre-use checks, SWL, current LOLER Tag, ground conditions/use of pads for supports, exclusion of pedestrians, etc...

Any advice about how to go about this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks In Advance.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Just do what you do for your overhead cranes. The process is the same for what ever is doing the lifting and for whatever is being lifted. I would use the same plan template that you have or if you have generic lifts as part of your Risk Assessments see if you can expand upon those.

You are right, it's about SWL, risks, hazards, training, the load, where's it going etc

So good information here, if you haven't seen it already: http://www.hse.gov.uk/work-equipment-machinery/planning-organising-lifting-operations.htm
