Specialism in high access, confined space and rescue at work

Hi all,
I have been working in Industrial Rope Access for over 27 years, which included working in high risk locations for various industry sectors On-shore and Off-shore. In that time I have also been involved in training and advising companies who work in these sectors. That also includes the emegency services, police and military. Along the way I achieved CMIOSH, to add weight to any documents and procedures that I produced. I am well aware that I work in a niche area, however, I was wondering if there are any other health & safety roles that I could branch out into or would it be best I keep on specialising? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Russ

Russ - your job could get you close to those advising and training on closely related issues, such as working at height (on a broader level), confined spaces?
Depends somewhat on whether you are comfortable with your workload now and going forward, and whether you need to broaden your horizons from a job satisfaction point of view.

Hi Peter, Firstly apologies for not replying sooner. I've been overseas working on various projects which have taken me away from IOSH related stuff..
Many thanks for your post, I have recently been involved in the delivery of Confined Space courses, which are accredited by City & Guilds. I think I just have to keep searching around to see what other roles I can get involved in. Russ

Russ - yes your skill set is a bit niche but it's a skill set that seems to be in short supply at the moment. If you wanted to branch out then I would suggest the same as Peter that you look at work at height. Also there is quite a lot of requirement for rope training for self rescue when using "man up" very narrow aisle fork trucks becoming a trained trainer for these trucks could be another option.

That is is a great idea, that is exactly the sort of area I specialise in. I will look into it more. Many thanks for your post!! Russ
