In a care home, day room kitchenette area does the fridge need to be a commercial fridge or can it be a standard fridge like one you can pick up at Argos/AO etc? The fridge holds milk/juices, butter for residents.

In most work environments the fridge etc. are all purchased from normal white goods suppliers Commercial kitchens e.g. hotels / restaraunts that get a lot of abuse you would invest in more serious kit Even take aways use "domestic" goods if you look at the various TV programmes so why do you presume you need something extra special?

I have worked in care home setting & don't see a problem with a "normal" domestic fridge in the setting you describe.
However, the larger fridges used in the kitchen environment tend to be of a commercial standard usually because of their size & the need to maintain a constant low temperature.

Agree with Zyggy; I have been in many many care homes and small fridges in domestic style environments such as day rooms or kitchenettes are invariably domestic. One thing to consider is temperature checking: this is best done without opening the fridge door if possible, so a probe with a captive readout can be handy if there's room on the fridge top for the display,

Thanks for the responses. I was just curious because we had environmental health officer in and they said we had to have commercial fridges put in kitchenette areas to replace our perfectly good domestic fridges.
