Self lifeguarding when coaching swimming lessons

Hello , I have been asked to provide a view on self lifeguarding whilst coaching , presently there is a swimming teacher and a lifeguard. Now guidelines state that this is possible , but there are plenty of concerns .
Anyone had similar issues

Could I suggest you contact Swim England for their advice.

You have to consider the size and depth of the pool, who is being coached and the type of coaching being provided.
The guidelines say it is possible because it is possible and the HSE guidance on swimming pools takes you through the process and gives specific examples..
Some pools require no lifeguarding whatsoever!
What are your concerns?

No straightforward answer.

STA have some advice. Generally, if a lifeguard is required by nature of pool risk assessment then stick with that. The teacher is teaching, the lifeguard is lifeguarding. If trying to double up (because, as you say, it is possible) then what happens when the teacher needs to implement a rescue? Risk profile rises when the teacher wants to get in the pool at the same time as part of the teaching too. This is a true dynamic risk assessment scenario where need to consider numbers, location, availability of additional rescue cover, competence of pupils etc.
