Dear all, what's your thoughts on old electrical cabinet locks that could be opened by a tool, such as a screwdriver or house key, rather than a dedicated hex key or similar dedicated tool?
The guidance says they must not be able to be used by coin or nailfile or similarly common object one may have. Would a screwdriver not fit into this? What's everyone's stance on this?

Not really sure what you mean by our "stance" - I wouldn't insist on them being replaced but I would expect that this sort of unit wouldn't be fitted now. A screwdriver is a simple tool but then so is a hex key isn't it as there is no restriction on access to them?

If it can be opened with a screwdriver or random house key, that would not be adequate.

You need to replace the old lock with a proper lock, with a proper key. But you should keep the key in the lock otherwise you might lose it…what’s wrong with that?
