Hi all, Have your employers taken a position on site visits for safety inspections?
I've spoken to some who suspended all traveling from head office to sites (and vice versa) already. Given that we (presumably) believe H&S inspections are an effective and important part of our control measures there's a balance here to choose between helping to limit the spread of covid-19 and directly supporting safety measures on site.
Obviously official advice takes priority, I'm just thinking about what we'll do proactively, and when.

Given the government's advice to employers to "Consider how you can change working practices to reduce risk of spread of infection" I'm leaning towards a skype-based walkaround with a responsible person on site. Not as effective at the inspection side of things but 100% effective at removing the risk of me bringing the virus to site. Interested in everyone else's thoughts as well. Good luck all.

My organisation has stopped all but business critical travel. However safety related visits (inspections and audits etc.) are deemed as business critical and can continue.

My organization has suspended all travel except for critical operational, and that is also limited to certain countries. There is a very fine balance between own health and safety at site. (also when we visit site, workers gets exposed to insecpor as well). in view of this, certain sites have been identified for no inspection for next 30 days.

Logging any absences to justfy a drop in projected earnings to the city. Everyones business is to their simple mind more important than society - just look at that group of presenteeisms in your business who limp in every winter spreading their cold to disrupt the business because their presence is so "vital" to the success of the organisation. One thing that should come from this current scenario is a charge of reckless endangerment or even attempted murder to those who ignore advice and choose to carry on regardless - after all if an HIV carrier who fails to declare to subsequent partners can be charged.... Thanks for the replies, all. It's useful to hear how other employers are acting. Has anyone else's employer made adjustments to how inspections away from the office are carried out? We're working through a range of options.

I agree, not only do these people who limp in put other people at risk they also force others who are sick to come in, because they argue 'if they can do it, so can everyone'

There are Aps available for safety inspections which the people on site can use and download to you in the office. You can then have a look at their findings.
