Hi

Can anyone please advise on the following issue we have. In a Food Distribution Centre we have plastic trays of food products entering for ongoing transport to the major supermarkets. They are stacked approx 2 meters high (industry standard?) and weigh around 15 - 18kgs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we safely handle top top few trays.

We have a small gantry but not completely happy with it as the operator can not maintain 3 points of contact when descending with the tray

Thanks

Why do you assume 15 - 18 Kgs is any safer at lower level?

Your assessement should cover what is appropriate.

I would argue that a tray at 2M high to suit "transport" is not suitable for human intervention and you need to investigate additional handling equipment e.g. hydraulic scissor lift tables so the operator does not need to carry the item down the gantry.

Can the person on the gantry put the top trays on another surface, or pass them to a colleague?
