All, I have been looking at our fire marshal provision on site to cater for areas that are open and ensuring adequate provision. However, during an alarm, we are going to assume normal evacuation with a view to them congregating at the assembly points at 2 m distancing. But, I wanted to see if anyone else had made any changes to the way their fire marshals conduct their sweep taking into account contact precautions around COVID-19 and if you have made any arrangements for fire marshals because of this? We obviously want to protect staff to ensure they have as little contact upon exiting the building as possible, but as fire marshals would normally check all the areas on their given route, has anyone changed this? I'd apprecaite some opinions.

This hasnt affected my workplace yet but I read something on the HSE website I believe that the risk of fire outweighs C19 risks so social distancing is not seen as vital during an evacuation.

As said the risk from fire is greater than the risk from Covid-19. If there is a particular risk during a fire drill it will most likely be when people are hanging around at the assembly point waiting for someone to let them back in. One solution is not to have a fixed assembly point- what some people call “starburst”. People just leave the site and disperse. You can then text them or something to get them to come back in (which is of course the tricky bit)

Do you have a link to this information on the HSE website? I had a quick look but drew a blank. Thanks.
