Hi all

Looking for advice here, we are a construction company and now we are back out of furlough the topic has come up again that we will have to make maintenance calls or defects visits to occupied houses we have built and are now occupied

I need help putting together a procedure, so far i know that we cant attend if the tenant is shielding, vulnerable or isolating but what else shoul di be putting in it - just that our employee has to wear PPE (mask and gloves) plus wipe anything he touches? or is there any guidance already out there?

Last resort PPE - spend sometime thinking about what else they can do e.g. hand sanitiser on entering and exiting the property (unless there are physical or chemical risks to their hands why do they need gloves?), resident in a separate room (unless they are drilling concrete or working with pesticides why would they need a mask?).

Accessing the property - ring the bell / knock the door and step back.

Ask for directions to the task and the resident to step to a separate room.

Exiting the property - agree with the resident you will knock on the door on exiting and wait at a distance whilst they assess any work.

As with current delivery drivers photos of open doorways rather than client signatures

How would that procedure stop the transfer of virus carried in exhaled droplets?

I'll just put down the *necessary* procedure for a visit to the home of an isolating high-vulnerability resident, for a local housing association, on advice given by local govt.

1. Full body coverall, wear once and discard.

2. Footwear covers (item needed even on non-pandemic visit)

3. RPE (face mask with no exhalation valve, not surgical facemask) (wear once, discard)

4. Disposeable gloves (wear once, discard)

1 of engrs came up with the following when working at client sites.

Arrive on site

Call client and explain work

Sanitise hands

Agree door to be opened and give client time to retreat to safe space

Conduct work

Clean work area

Leave premises

Call from outside to inform work complete and exactly what work was conducted

Sanitise hands

Inform headoffice work complete and move to next job.

If at any time during the job they need to speak to client it's done over the phone, this gives complete safety to client, some may not wish to say why they arew self isolating so it's the easiest option

I think John Murray, thats over kill. Treat it like you would your normal workplace, social distance, wash hands, clean work area and leave.

I would advice what you are saying in a covid setting but not in a non covid setting.

Thank you all for your input

to sum up i will implement the following - 

1. customer care team to call and arraneg visit and asses tenant (if they are self isolating we wont attend) 

2. under normal circumstances we will sanitise, knock door, step back, enter and cary out works (wearing face mask and gloves), complete works, clean area, leave property and sanitise hands

3. customer care team call tenant to discuss works

4. we will increase PPE for any househould where the tenant is shielding or increased risk of illness (PPE to include coveralls, show covers, respiartor, disposeable gloves)

that all sounds like a good plan so thank you for the input

Was going to say exactly the same as Dave - specificaly the one about visiting people homes.
