Hello,

I really need some help with regards to one of the NHS clinical settings. It might be surprising for you when you hear healthcare organisations help spread of the virus while expecting the public to stay at home and protect the NHS. I've been having quite a lot of issues since beginning of the pandemic with my organisation regarding to making the workplace covid-safe. However, after such a long time finally some physical control measures have come in place but the behaviours never changed and recently they had organised an unnecessary event and had a summer tropical trip party with lots of finger foods and drink sharings, photo booths and a crowd of people on last Sauarday night in the office. Prior to the event myself as a responsible h&s person and the IPC manager sent a few emails to the relevant managers divisionally and corporately but our emails completely were ignored and they carried on with their plans. Now I have sent a complaint email to the relevant director, raising the issue, the lack of the communication and the fact that as representatives of NHS our staff mustn't be the ones who spread the virus themselve. The director didn't like my email and my manager instead of addressing the breach of health and safety by that setting has accused me for my email having a strong tone -  whilst the director herself publicly sent an email and belittled me for sending such email to her using her power to keep me quiet. This is not the first time this organisation has treated me disgracefully. But now it's not about me, it's about all staff, their families and patients who should come into contact to those staff memebers who might have contracted the virus and spreading it to others. I work in Leicester which is in local lock down as a result of an increase in new case.

I checked HSE's website, apparantly we cannot report the covid cases through them. I reported this incident to the local police and they said because it's a corporate organisation they cannot deal with it.

I highly appreciate your comments to help me how and who to report the incident and how to tackle this problem.

Many thanks,

Maryam

Does your organisation have a whistleblowing procedure?

It  has but it doesn't go anywhere because Execs are responsible for the events.

I wonder if ACAS might be able to advise you.

Try contacting the Care Quality Commission. If an NHS Trust try talking to a staff governor or a Non-Executive Director

I visit hospitals quite regularly and I'm always surprised at the lack of social distancing that I see between staff there. Nurses crowding together, passing personal items to each other, etc...

Where on the HSE website does it say you can't report these concerns to them?  The only bit I see where they talk about not reporting concerns to them is this page - where they tell you who to report to instead depending on what the work is:

All NHS organisations are supposed to have an independent internal whistleblowing procedure. If that does not work then, it is possible to raise concerns with a ‘prescribed person’ under the Public Interest Disclosure Order 1999. See this for details https://www.england.nhs.uk/ourwork/whistleblowing/
