Hello,

We are moving to a new office. Its a large single floor with 3 stair wells for exit. Its quite low risk office space.

We plan to partion the floor into smaller sections/rooms. The issue I have is how many people can we have in 'room' before we need 2 exits by law?

There is a large area that the 'bosses' want to fit 60 employees into, but it only has 1 exit (fire door). Which I feel is too many people for one door.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some official numbers for these sort of things thanks?

Thankyou in advanced.

Edd...

Hi Edd

If you are in England or Wales you could look at

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/422175/9449_Offices_and_Shops_v2.pdf

In particular, Section 2 Part 4.

There is similar guidance for offices in Scotland or NI.

As you will see, there are various magic numbers one of which is the 60 you quote.

But it comes down to level or risk, numbers, travel distances, widths of egress routes and whether you need to acccommodate people with any kind of disability.
