A member of staff falls - not work related and fractures a bone in his arm - not reportable, however he is off work in excess of 7 days - is this now reportable

RIDDOR - Does my head in.

Thanks

RVThompson is correct.

As a side point the fractured arm would have been reportable had it been work related - whether it was 7 days+ or not.

From the HSE RIDDOR page

"Specified injuries to workers

The list of ‘specified injuries’ in RIDDOR 2013 replaces the previous list of ‘major injuries’ in RIDDOR 1995. Specified injuries are (regulation 4):

  • fractures, other than to fingers, thumbs and toes
  • ........"

Did they fall due to the condition of the workplace or did they just trip over their own feet ?

If it was due to the condition of the workplace it could be reportable!

He got a bit dehydrated and went outside for some air and tripped over a kerb - he says it was his own fault.

Then also agree not reportable if curb in good condition and their fault.

Chris
