Hi All, I am looking to subscribe to the Croners Health and Safety Service online. I know that they don't openly advertise subscription fees so when I go to them I will no doubt get a sales pitch and have to negotiate a price.
I've used the system before when working within a large organisation who had multiple licences. However, I have no idea what I should be paying for a single licence. Can any of my peers who've had a price quoted recently, or perhanps currently subscribe, give me an indication of costs please. This will be for a single subscription to the standalone Helth and Safety part of Croner i as opposed to bundled HR, accountancy package etc.
Thank you very much in advance Alf Edited by user 11 November 2020 09:55:52(UTC)

I talked to them about the service recently and even after sitting through the sales pitch they didn't want to give me any indication on price. They wanted me to tell them how much their competition had quoted me before providing a price themselves.
At that point I decided 'thanks but no thanks'. Such shenanigans 'urinate' me off.
They are no longer on the shortlist.

Alf If I had acrcn's experience they wouldn't be on my shortlist either. What do you actually want from whoever you might subscribe to that you cannot find elsewhere for free?

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. That's exactly what I was concerned about. I dont want to get into a haggling situation when I don't know the "going rate". It's a shame because as I've said in my post I've used the system in a previous role and it is very comprehensive. May I ask who is on your shortlist now?

You are correct, I couldp probably find ethe majority of the material they supply free elsewhere. However, my time is precious and their system allows users to get answers/confirmation of opinion very effeciantly. Everything is available in one place. Also as a consultant, if I need a second opinion it's easy to pick up the phone and speak to them. All in all, their system and others like it are very useful to consultants who are working alone
thanks

We are looking for both H&S and environmental stuff, and my main focus is on a legal registers system that will keep track of items of legislation I've flagged and highlight revisions to it or related items. Althouigh you can do without, as you note, a system that accelerates or shortcuts the process is worth paying for (in my opinion, at least).
Current shortlist is:
https://thecompliancepeople.co.uk/legislation-update-service/
https://www.myactiv.co.uk/legal-compliance/
https://cedrec.com/
I'm not actually sure they provide what I want, or what my co-conspirator wants (our head of Environmental). I haven't even got as far as playing with trial versions yet, so I'm not endorsing these, just saying they haven't (yet) put me off!
We used to use Ends Compliance (indeed, have a current subscription). Their recently revamped system is not working for me (it's prettier on a phone, not so good on a PC, but it's also less usable and has had a number of actual functional faults, most of which their technical people have resolved eventually, but some of which not).

Hi Achrn,
Appreciate you taking the time to get back to me. Yes there are many options out there. I think Croner-i is probably the most comprehensive package though I haven looked at a couple of the options you mention. Cedric appears very rigid to me, not a great deal of additional, ready to go, added value stuff. I've just spoken with a sales person (titled account manager!). Long story short but essentially they are quoting £1200 inc vat for first year and £1800 per year for the remainder of the term. Seems like quite alot of money for a one person outfit like mine, especially as Im still not fully established but it would appear to save me alot of time. That comes with a "free" introductory period of 3 months, so no payment until 3 months after first access Cheers
Alf

Alf In my last employment we had global access to IHS, formerly Technical Indexes and just about the full package, i.e. not just their Occupational Health and Safety Information Service, which we subscribed to many years ago. Did the business, with access to information from a whole host of publishers, but I haven't a clue what a single person licence for OHSIS would cost and if you wanted BS standards that would be extra.

1 of my clients uses CITATION. They have the H&S and HR package. As their consultant, I have 24/7 access to expert H&S if I get stuck. We receive 2 site visits a year and a complete library of Ra's and MS's.
