Hi,

I was wondering if there is an actual DSEAR qualification. All the courses i have seen on line are one or two days and CPD and ROSPA approved and offer certification but i dont think this stands as a qualification. I have recently completed a couple of DSEAR risk assessments but this was done via experience and knowledge rather than having specific training and qualifications. My backgound is the oil and gas industry both on and offshore, UK and overseas.

Most of my work is within the scope of DSEAR.

There is no once only training course for DSEAR, certainly not that I'm aware of.

My quals are a combination of a general engineering degree, IOSH Diploma, DSEAR releated fire & explosion courses via the I Chem E, Comp Ex training course. Then 12yrs + working in vaious oil and gas contractor design office as a Safety Engineer / Design Safety Engineer. plus time working on various process industry installations/fuel termials, COMAH sites etc

Also doing general process safety work - fire & explosion consequence modelling, HAZOPs etc , human factors studies.

One word of advice is not to follow the Compex system too closely - this training system is more aimed at fitters/inspectors/installation of ATEX equipment rather than DSEAR and risk assessment.

...similar to Ian...Chemical Eng.ect and Process Safety work throughout..I also teach it...it is a specialist discipline and for liabilities sake a little more involved...

Same as above. DSEAR Risk Management course, Compex, Diploma, HAZOP lead and a few more, although without the engineering qualification, but plenty of experience otherwise. DSEAR risk assessing is not my main focus either so I always call upon others wihtin the business when it's outside the scope of my capability.

There's so much to take in to consideration when assessing dangerous substances.
