Hi all, I'm wondering if you can help me. If you're storing SO2 gas outside, does it need to be in a specific type of storage container or does it not matter as long as you follow the instructions from BCGA COP 18 The safe storage, handling and use of special gases (i.e. meeting recommended separation distances, not stored with other gases etc)? I can't seem to find a specific type of container/storage for it and I don't know if I just get a normal cage etc. If not, can anyone link a specific type that is needed? I only need a very small one (we only have 3 size D bottles; 1 in use, 1 empty and 1 full) on site at any one time. Thanks.

PS - Is it also a requirement for a fire resistant wall internally for SO2 gas (as I dont't believe it's combustible or flammable) where its in use? Thanks.

There should be storage instructions from the supplier, for example on the safety data sheet.

It is an oxidised material so you are correct it is not combustible.

The main issue with SO2 is that it is corrosive, and you need special fittings for it. Do not put it any sort of enclosed cabinet. If it develops a slow leak, you want the gas to disperse quickly not build up inside the cabinet.
