After a bit of guidance. I've ben asked to conduct the internal audit but I'm a bit flummuxed. I have the blank forms but a bit lost on what to check? How much to check? Does anyone have a working example they wouldn't mind sharing? Or even some guidance notes. Acreditationn body isn't being very helpful. I've asked them for some examples but they've not responded in any shape or form. Once I have a working example I'm sure I can then use it as a guide for my establishment

Hi Mark, There are some good online courses for being an internal auditor for 45001 which might be worth a look. You are auditing your companies procedures to see if they are being followed. Pick your Fire Procedures for example. Lets say that state fire drills to be carried out every 6 months, weekly fire alarm tests, emergency plan in place etc. You would check that this is happening and if not raise an NCR. Pick a different process each time; accident reporting, risk assessments etc but I would start with your high risk or areas you want to improve and put a plan in place to show what you are going to look at each month

Just a point. You suggest this will be an audit, but the impression from the response to this was to check if procedures are being followed. An audit is more than this. It should look at whether your policies and procedures comply with the requirements of 45001. If you are going to go for certification, as implied in your post, this is the first thing the certification body will look at. Compliance with procedures comes later.

It rather depends on what exactly you are being asked to do. For my organisation, an external consultant (not from Certification Body) who is Lead Auditor qualified does an Internal Audit against the requirements of ISO5001 (previously 18001) on an annual basis. This audits our management system and procedures against the requirements This is then complemented by a planned program of employee led internal audits to check compliance to the management system.

We were issued our certificate a few months ago, the first external audit came round and we hadn't completed the internal audit, so a major non compliance. I have 60 days to complete the internal to ensure ongoing certification. Well a bit less than that now as I've been chasing the issuing company for help but they aren't forthcoming with it. I don't have time to get on an interanal auditors course so was hoping for a worked example that I could translate and modify the questions to my clients company.
The company have a load on their website but the links are broken and despite several emails, they haven't fixed the links or emailed me copies.

Not that it helps you in the short term but the easiest way of showing that you've completed your internal audits is to audit a seperate clause each month and I've PM'd you our annual schedule which has been approved at surveillance audits every year for a while now.
To Audit the enitire Management system in 60 days could be a big job but I suspect that providing that you put a schedule in place and can show that you've completed what you said you would do in the sixty days that should be enough and could be used as evidence of continual improvement as well.
