What are the competencies of industrial hygiene officer, having NVQ Level 6 qualification in H&S is enough to get a job in same discipline?

Clearly a general H&S qualification at any level isn't enough to make someone an industrial hygienist. At the very least some on-the-job training would be needed.

Relevant qualifications are described here: https://www.bohs.org/qualify/

Hi Pervaiz

I entirely agree with Kate.

An occupational hygienist would be familiar with using the current technology for e.g. measuring airborne contaminants - not something likely to be properly catered for in a Level 6 general health and safety qualification.

In addition to the options offered by BOHS you might want to look at US qualifications. Proportionally there are many more opportunities for industrial hygienists in the US than the UK.

Your profile indicates that you are in UAE, so it might be that you are working to US OSHA requirements rather than e.g. European standards.

Good luck, Peter
