Hi

we are currently go through our occupational health and safety risks due to our new certification to ISO45001 and requirements identified through our legal register.

We have forklift trucks which operate indoors and on the yard and need to consider if there is any risk to whole body vibration. Toyota our FLT suppliers have confirmed that the trucks we use wholst body vibration is 0.8m/s2 in accordance with EN13059.

Our operators jump on and off the trucks throughout the day, i would imagine the most they may spend is two hours before breaks etc...

i know the hse has a calculator, but to be honest, i can't work out what to do, and also not sure if 0.8m/s2 is tolerant for our hours of work?

Can anyone please advise ?

Looking at the calculator it needs three figures one each for x, y & z axis

It also asks if the value has K-Factor applied

It then asks for the duration of operation

Assuming the 0.8 is the same value for x, y & z then with K-factor applied up to three hours in the seat keeps the operative below the 0.5 daily exposure

However if the K-factor has not been applied this drops to 1.5 hours

You need more clarity from the manufacturer as to their values and a definitive number for driver seat time (with engine running)
