Hi all

I am looking for some publicably available guidance that set out the safe weight distrubution when loading of an empty stand trailer.

Good practice indicates that goods should be loaded from the headboard of a HGV trailer backwards. I am aware of a situation where IBCs are being loaded onto a curtain sider stand trailer (no tractor-cab present) with an FLT and there can be around 6 IBCs of liquid (around 6 tonnes) in front of the trailer legs. I have asked that a trailer stand be placed underneath if they must be loaded in this order but I have had mixed messages about how unstable the trailer would be. Even seasoned operatives, suggest this practice is fine but I have concerns.

The FLT is not on the bed of the truck but loading from the side.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some guidance on this - even if it is a truck or trailer manufacturer?

I appreciate anything you can offer.

Regards

Indicates common prcatice - headboard backwards, along the centre line (or alternate sides along the centre line) keeping the load low along the trailer.

Thank you for this. Does anyone have any details regarding guidance weights? I am unsure of the safe weights an articulated trailer could take in this weight. Is there a general rule if weights are trailer type or manufacturer dependant?

Trailers are "plated" by the manufacturer (just like an FLT or the HGV tractor unit) which provides the necessary information to enable its annual inspection.
